THE LONDON KATA INTERNATIONAL
1. This is pairs competition. Each pair consists of someone acting as "tori" and someone as "uke".
2. No pair may perform more than once in the same kata, even if they swap roles.
3. The order of performance will be decided by the drawing of lots at the commencement of the category.
4. In the Senior competition, Each pair will be expected to perform the complete kata. The Junior competition has different rules (set out below).
5. Each pair will be marked out of 100 according to the following criteria:
(a) Technical merit (quality/accuracy of each technique) 40%
(b) Commitment to the kata (commitment/energy) 20%
(c) Harmony between tori and uke 20%
(d) Posture, style and flair 20%
6. No marks will be notified until the end of the category.
7. The final mark per pair will be reached by dividing the total number of points awarded by ALL the judges and dividing by the number of judges to give a final mark out of 100.
8. In the unlikely event of a tie, EACH judge on the panel of judges shall choose which pair should be considered the winner. The pair with most votes shall be the winner. That result will be final.
9. Gold, silver and two bronze medals shall be awarded in each kata. Each member of a pair will receive a medal. Each medal winner will score points for their team in the Tate & Lyle team competition on the following basis:
Gold medallists EACH score 3 points for their team
Silver medallists EACH score 2 points for their team
Bronze medallists EACH score 1 point for their team
10. The TEAM with the most points (combined) from the senior and junior KATA tournaments will win the MIKE O NEILL TROPHY. This trophy may be retained for ONE year on the strict condition that it is returned BEFORE the commencement of the 2008 tournament. A keepsake trophy will also be awarded.
11. Special rules for the junior tournament
In order to encourage the study of kata at junior level, we are introducing a junior tournament. Juniors may enter both THIS tournament AND the senior tournament, if they are able to demonstrate the whole kata.
12. The junior tournament comprises the following categories:
A. JUNIOR NAGE "A" Demonstration of ANY ONE set of Nage No Kata;
B. JUNIOR NAGE "B" Demonstration of the FIRST THREE sets of
No Kata
C. JUNIOR KATAME Demonstration of ANY ONE set of Katame No Kata;
13. Scoring will be the same as for the senior event.
14. The same pair may NOT enter more than ONE of the above named Nage No Kata categories. The same pair MAY enter one of the above named categories AND the Senior Nage No Kata event. The same pair may enter a Nage No & a Katame No Kata event.
